International Association of Amusement Rides and Attractions (IAAPA)

IAAPA is the largest international trade association for permanently situated amusement facilities worldwide and is dedicated to the preservation and prosperity of the amusement industry. IAAPA represents more than 4,000 facility, supplier, and individual members from more than 90 countries, including most amusement parks and attractions in the United States. Member facilities include amusement parks, theme parks, waterparks, family entertainment centers, zoos, aquariums, museums, science centers, resorts, and casinos.

Council for Amusement and Recreational Equipment Safety

CARES provides a forum for discussion of issues regarding amusement equipment safety, administration, regulation, and enforcement at all levels of government. CARES is a voluntary organization of U.S. and Canadian government officials responsible for the enforcement of amusement ride and recreational equipment regulations.

New Jersey Carnival and Amusement Ride Safety Program

By law, amusements operated in NJ must be type certified. The state’s program has a full engineering staff to review current and new rides for modifications, alterations and installation. IIPG recommends that operators (regardless of location) take advantage of this government program and search the list of approved rides as part of their regular product research.

NAARSO provides news, seminars, and certification examinations and endorsements for amusement ride inspectors authorized by jurisdictional agencies, insurance companies, private consultants, safety professionals, and federal government agencies.

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of serious injury or death from more than 15,000 types of consumer products under the agency's jurisdiction. The CPSC is committed to protecting consumers and families from products that pose a fire, electrical, chemical, or mechanical hazard or can injure children. The commission’s jurisdiction over amusement rides is limited to those not permanently fixed to a site.

The directory identifies individual state offices dedicated to ride safety. The staff serves a clearinghouse of ride safety incident information and monitors activities associated with mobile amusements through the ATSM Committee F-24. It also investigates rides which may be defective or present public hazards, responding to official incident reports or complaints from consumers.
